1. To delay something until a later time. 2. To agree to accept someone's opinion or decision because you respect them.

The company decided to defer the decision. / I will defer to your judgment in this matter.

会社はその決定を延期することにした。/ この件に関しては、あなたの判断に従います。

「延期する(postpone)」と「敬意を払って従う(defer to)」の2つの意味に注意が必要です。
