(of a right, privilege, or agreement) become invalid because it is not used, claimed, or renewed; pass into a different state or condition.
If you don't renew your membership, it will lapse at the end of the month.
会員資格を更新しないと、月末に失効します。
「lapse into ~」で「〜（好ましくない状態）に陥る」という意味でよく使われる。
